Burnwood Community School
'Working Together to
Achieve Our Best'
April
Newsletter 2007
Dear
Parents,
Books and Beyond
This
initiative is developing really well. It is amazing the amount of progress the
pupils taking part are making. Research
shows parental involvement has a significant effect on pupil achievement. We
will be presenting the Gold Awards on Thursday 3 May.
Open
Afternoon
We
had about 60 parents who came into school to have a look at the displays and
work in classrooms. Please let the parent governors know if you would like this
again.
Breakfast
in school
The
Big Breakfast we hope to see you at the next event on Friday 20 April.
Uniform
Mrs
Bryan has started a weekly savings scheme on Wednesday mornings, to help you start
saving to purchase a uniform top embroidered with the school logo ready for
September. If your child doesn’t want to wear the official top then a plain
royal blue top will be acceptable.
Congratulations
I
am delighted to inform you that Cara Johnson and Macaulay Hall have been
selected to take part in the Sport Leaders training at Stanley Head.
Football
Our
boy’s football team were runners up in the Tunstall Town Tournament and our girl’s
team were the outright winners. Many thanks to everyone involved with training,
transport or taking part.
You
will have noticed that work has started on the multi sports/ cycling track.
Phase 1 of this project should be finished in May. Phase 2 is the development
of a Mountain Bike Trail with Art and Woodland features. We will be holding
special development days when you can be involved working with the Npower team
and local artists. We would value your support with this. The full project
should be finished in spring 2008.
There
is a vacancy in the school kitchen for 1 hour a day. Please leave you name and
telephone number at the main office if you are interested.
Stanley
Head
Unfortunately
the City Council have made changes to the funding for placements. From April
any child who takes free school meals is being charged 25% of the cost e.g. the
children in Y5 will be expected to pay £21 and children who are not on free
meals will have to pay £85. The price also varies depending on the time of year
this price is classed as mid season. We have made two bookings for next school
year. I will be asking parents if they are able to fund this additional cost.
It would be ideal to open an account with the Britannia Building Society and
gain interest on your savings. If you want to open an account you only have to send
in £1 and sign the form as the school holds all relevant information. Please
see Wendy about the savings and pass on any comments about Stanley Head to our
parent governors.
